MEETING 4: THE SUSTAINABLE STUDIO - 21ST OCTOBER 2019 - 7-8.30PM
At the Economic Justice for Wales IPPR event in July we put a question to First Minister Mark Drakeford. We presented a short case study of progress @CivicWales’ St Fagan’s conference and @TWT_NOW in Brighton.
We have adopted an undercommons* approach to establishing a cross-sector city-wide combine** to collectively problem solve and develop radical, policy-led proposals.
Our key question is:
‘Can citizen’s assemblies be part of a more transparent, co-operative, local, citizen-led planning approach in Cardiff (and Wales) with custodianship over a s106/CIL or equivalent levy generating a grassroots community fund? Through a deliberative democratic approach local people can themselves then elect which activities to support in their communities. Building a participatory approach to democracy and strengthening communities through local leadership.’
A paper which highlights the issues with the current s106 system as applied in Cardiff is available to download and share here.
